Who We Are

Real people building real spaces

Our Studio Space

The Story Behind the Shadows

Look, we're not gonna pretend we started in some garage with nothing but dreams and a pencil. Truth is, Lunar Forge Shadows came together in 2018 when three of us realized we were tired of seeing the same boring box buildings popping up everywhere in Toronto.

We'd all worked at different firms - big ones, small ones, the kind that make you wear a tie every day. But what we really wanted was to design spaces that actually made people feel something. Industrial bones with residential warmth. That's our thing.

Turns out, a lot of folks were looking for exactly that.

How We Actually Work

Forget the corporate nonsense. Here's what you're really getting when you work with us.

We Listen First

Yeah, we've got ideas - tons of 'em. But your space isn't about us showing off. We spend real time understanding how you actually live or work before we even sketch anything. Some clients find it weird at first, but that's how we avoid building something that looks great but feels wrong.

Honest Budgets

We'll tell you straight up what things cost. No surprises six months in. If your vision's gonna blow the budget, we'll figure out what matters most and find smart ways to make it work. Been doing this long enough to know where to splurge and where to save.

The Details Matter

We're kinda obsessive about lighting, materials, and how spaces flow. It's not just about making things pretty - it's about creating environments that work with natural light, change through the day, and actually improve your daily routine. That's where the "shadow" part comes in.

Meet the Core Team

Marcus Chen

Marcus Chen

Principal Architect

Spent 12 years doing high-rise commercial before realizing he'd rather focus on spaces people actually live in. Marcus handles most of our residential projects and has this weird ability to visualize spatial flow that honestly makes the rest of us jealous. Coffee snob, cyclist, hates meetings.

Sarah Kowalski

Sarah Kowalski

Lead Industrial Designer

Sarah's the one who gets excited about structural steel and exposed ductwork. She came from manufacturing facility design and brought that raw aesthetic to our residential work. If you've seen our signature industrial-residential fusion style, that's mostly her influence. Marathon runner, plant collector.

Jamal Rodriguez

Jamal Rodriguez

Sustainability Director

Jamal makes sure we're not just designing cool-looking buildings that'll cost a fortune to heat. He's all about passive design, smart materials, and making spaces work with the environment instead of against it. Former contractor, which means he knows what's actually possible. Guitar player, terrible dancer.

Why Toronto?

We're based right on Queen West because this city's got the perfect mix of historic industrial buildings and modern urban energy. There's real character here - old warehouses, brick facades, neighborhoods that've evolved over decades.

Plus, Toronto's getting it. More clients want spaces with personality instead of those cookie-cutter condos. We've been lucky to work on projects from Liberty Village lofts to Leslieville renovations, always finding ways to honor the industrial past while creating contemporary comfort.

This city inspires us every single day.

Toronto Architecture

Our Design Philosophy

Light and shadow aren't opposites - they're partners. We design spaces where natural light moves through the day, creating different moods and highlighting different features. Industrial materials bring texture and honesty. Residential comfort brings warmth and livability.

It's not about choosing one or the other. It's about finding that sweet spot where both exist together, where a space feels both bold and welcoming.

What We're Working On

Right now we've got a mixed-use building in the Junction, a warehouse conversion in Parkdale, and three residential projects scattered across the GTA. We're also experimenting with some adaptive reuse concepts that we're pretty excited about.

Every project teaches us something new. That's honestly what keeps this interesting after all these years.
